Program
The Headwaters School-Age Programs serve children ages 5-12 years old and are designed to provide a change of pace from the school day. A variety of planned activities are available for children to choose from including art, games, books, and outdoor play. A supervised area for homework is also available. Program Staff are able to work with your child and your child's teacher to help support your child's school success.

Field Trips: Taking walks and bus trips, children experience the rich variety of life in our community.

Socio-Emotional Development: Nurturing teachers support children as they make new friends, learn cooperation and trust, express needs, feelings and ideas, and gain independence.

Parent Participation
Parents are encouraged to visit the programs any time during operating hours to help with special events and projects or attend field trips. Staff are always available to talk to you about your child and any concerns or suggestions you may have about the program. Monthly newsletters keep parents current on program activities.

Snacks
Each day a nutritious snack will be served. Snacks will consist of two of the four major food groups and will usually include a low-sugar high-energy food such as crackers, cereal, milk, fruits or vegetables.

Supervised Homework
Families are asked to complete a Homework Agreement if they would like their child to do homework while at the Program. Basic supplies such as pencils, rulers, glue, etc. will be provided as well as a quiet area for children to work on their assignments.

Admission
The Headwaters After-School Programs are licensed childcare facilities. We operate according to the Wisconsin Administrative Code for Group Day Care Centers. We accept children regardless of race, creed, sex, handicap, national origin or socioeconomic background. Please contact us for enrollment information or call .

Hours
The After-School programs are available Monday-Friday immediately following school until 6:00pm and from 6:45am to 6:00pm on non-school days.

Staff
The teachers in the Headwaters After-School Programs all meet the requirements of the State Licensing Codes to work in a child care setting. They all participate in monthly training in a variety of topics to meet the changing needs of children.

Why After-School Care?
As many as 15 million children are left unsupervised during non-school hours. 35% of twelve-year olds are left alone regularly while their parents work. Children have 4 times greater risk of being the victim of violent crime during the hours after school. For young people, ages 6-17, this risk peaks at 3:00pm, the end of the school day.
Juvenile crime triples when the school bell rings at the end of the day.
In a Louis Harris poll, half of the teachers questioned said that "children left on their own after school" is the primary cause of school failure.
Eighth graders unsupervised for 11 or more hours a week experience twice the risk of substance abuse as those who are under some form of adult supervision.

"For millions of children, Home Alone is not a funny movie, but rather the way they spend their time after school and during the summer. It is during these hours that our children face the greatest risk of violence and other threats, but it also is during these hours that they have the greatest chance to learn, grow, and find the hero within." - Hillary Clinton
